Tuner Buddy is a free, browser-based instrument tuner for ukulele and guitar players. It picks up pitch from your microphone, tells you how close you are to the target note, and does it without storing any of your audio or requiring any kind of account.
Getting in tune shouldn’t be a chore. Tuner Buddy runs on any modern device, costs nothing, and takes about two seconds to start up.

How the Tuner Works
Tuner Buddy uses the Web Audio API, a standard browser audio framework, to listen through your device’s microphone in real time. The audio goes through an autocorrelation algorithm that identifies the fundamental frequency of what you’re playing.
That frequency is mapped to the nearest note on the chromatic scale at A=440 Hz, and the tuner shows you how many cents sharp or flat you are. The needle and color indicator update in real time: green when you’re in tune, red when you’re off.
All of this stays in your browser. The audio is processed in memory and never sent anywhere. There’s no server receiving your microphone signal, no recording, and nothing stored after you close the tab.

Tuner Buddy is written and maintained by a team of musicians with experience playing ukulele and guitar across folk, pop, and jazz styles. We have spent way too long trying to get instruments in tune before discovering that a reliable browser-based tuner just didn’t exist yet.
